As football takes a global stage this evening, here's the most local of stories from 50 years ago. The merging of two Plaistow schools to make Cumberland Comprehensive, spawned five West Ham United Youth players, who joined another 6 from Newham's Boys Clubs. Poplar Boy's club was Tony Carr's first project as an inexperienced Youth Team coach, but it provided the foundations of today's modern football academy at the club.
