Born and raised in Shoreditch, Matt Monro was one of the World's finest vocalists. With Hackney lyricist and manager, Don Black, Matt Monro was the voice to countless Hollywood scores - but neither forgot their East London working class roots. In Monro's early singing career, he even kept his job as a bus driver, until persuaded by George Martin to accept a full time recording contract.
The East Ham Granada was a premier venue in the 50s and 60s, hosting acts such as Buddy Holly, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. It still stands as venue for hire in Barking Road.
